Jake chooses death – not for the first time, and perhaps not for the last? (sab)

You stand upon a massive crystal structure that represents one of the fonts of souls that feed the universe, now under siege by an enemy you have followed from apparent myth to incarnate being for nearly your entire adventuring careers. Before you lies the glowing portal that appears to be the only entrance. Will the Soul Totem open this gate? What awaits within, where gods themselves fear to tread?

Ichor drifts by in spherical globs and the carcass of a 70-foot wide demonic spider floats impossibly above you. Below it, dead but still upright in the non-gravity, is the corpse of your roguish companion, Jake. Be he Clever or Foolhardy? You’ve never quite decided. Is this his last death? Somehow you doubt it. Bane’s final glimpse of him placed him in the company of those most strange and rare individuals – the Gray Immortals. You know little of their purpose, but believe that it is, at least for now, aligned with your own.

So you take a moment to reflect, then begin stripping his body of loot and gear. He would have wanted it that way.
