In the Giants’ Den

April 28th, 2005

Curbing Ludan and Fozzy’s inclination to slaughter every frost giant in sight, the party searches for clues in their quest to liberate a powerful, but bound, nature spirit. (af)

After pillaging the Jarl’s treasure cache, you turn your attention to the areas sealed behind the Prismatic Wall.  Waiting the 2 hours necessary before the wall comes down is irritating, especially with the knowledge that the grey-cloaked individual is still at large.  Eventually, the wall comes down, and the door to the northern chamber opens slowly.  A huge figure steps gingerly out into the room, which you recognize as a cloud giant.  He is dressed in well-cured furs and hides, and has a sheathed great sword on his back.  Much golden jewelry is in evidence on him.

Surveying the wreckage before him, he shakes his head.  Speaking in perfect Common, he says, “So, what’s it gonna take to avoid being killed right now?”

Meanwhile, Lawst, Baden, and Ludan investigate two southern rooms.  The first is obviously a domain of a human, which you surmise to be the wizard you killed.  From the opulence of the room, he was here for some time, and liked his comforts.  The room is warmer than any you have encountered so far, and the furniture is well appointed and fashionable.  There are several chests and boxes around the room, including an ornate locked strongbox on the writing table.  The chests contain clothing and two sets of spell books, which contain all first and second level Wizard spells.

Picking the locked strongbox is easy for one of Ludan’s skills.  After bypassing a cleverly concealed acid trap, the contents of the box are revealed.  A leather-bound spell book is in the box, and contains some spells up to the 6th level.  Additionally, the box contains a circular black disk you have seen in the past – a symbol of Iuz.  You notice that it is unusually spacious on the inside.

A small notebook lies in the bottom of the box.  It seems to be a journal of sorts.  Inside, it contains a description of a minor artifact-level item called the Egg of Disjunction, which is in the hoard of the White Dragon Auraunator.  Directions to the Dragon’s lair are described in the notebook.  The general gist of the notebook indicates that the bearer, with the help of the Frost Giants, was to fetch the Egg from the Dragon’s lair and return it to one Franz the Vicious in Dorakka.

The southernmost room contains only the charnel reek of rotting flesh and the chewed ends of bones.  Human, Troll, Giant, and other unknown bones are in evidence here.
